Course work: Switched to charcoal pencil and did six two-minute sketches of my recumbent model. Again, most are only partial, with pentimenti in plenty; however, there are a few lines that I like. Foreshortening and proportions are problems, as anticipated.
Reading:
Kenneth Clark The Nude: A Study in Ideal Form
Princeton University Press, Princeton, New Jersey, USA, 1972
Pp. 118-172
Personal sketchbook work: A sketch of the most willful of our cats, stubbornly ensconced on the back of the forbidden chair.
Other activity: Did a computer search for AndrĂ© Lhote, teacher of Tamara Lempicka. Much of his work is very strongly cubist, and relatively little of his influence seems to have carried over to Lempicka’s work. I found a good bit more of Lempicka’s work on the web, including a large collection of drawings, which I looked through. (This activity not included in time recording.)
Total time: 1 hour 13 minutes
