Course work: Transferred the drawing of Mesoamerican objects to A2 paper, and commenced work with sanguine Conte’ pencil, a medium which seems well-suited to my subject, as one can render the differing textures and tones fairly well.

Personal sketchbook work: Two drapery studies. I think that drapery studies teach careful observation (and it is always easy to find one or to set one up).

Weekly thoughts on learning experience: Another busy and productive week’s effort. The first of the two final Assignment One drawings is complete, and the second is well underway. The week’s work has provided a good bit more experience with hatching and other shading techniques, and I am becoming more comfortable with Conte’ pencil. My sketchbook work has gone well, but I still have a strong tendency to turn my sketches into more or less finished drawings. I made two rather disappointing art show visits this week, and also attended a one-day figure drawing class.

Total time: A bit over three hours
