Reading:
Margaret Livingstone Vision and Art: The Biology of Seeing
Abrams, New York, 2002
Pp 165-203
(This is an interesting book, especially for anyone with scientific inclinations. It answers many fundamental questions of interest to artists, e.g., why there are three primary colors.)
Personal sketchbook work: A sketch of part of a mature gingko tree, done on site in my pocket sketchbook with graphite, then overworked with charcoal later. The branching pattern and the patterns of light and shade were what caught my eye.
Total time: 48 minutes
