Course work: Four 45-second gestures and a six-minute blind contour drawing, no better than usual.
An experiment with wax resist overwashed with dilute ink proved less successful than I had hoped. The result suggests an insufficient application of wax, complicated by a too-light wash. My second effort, on a larger scale (~16 x 25 cm), added a little color and used a full-strength ink wash: I think it worked a little better, and I can see that this could be an interesting and useful technique, following a good bit of practice. Some limited testing on scrap paper suggests that Conté crayon does not contain sufficient wax to permit its use as a resist agent.

Weekly reflections on learning experience: This has been a busy and reasonably successful week. I approach the Assignment Five drawing with some trepidation, but perhaps the experimental work I am doing now will prove helpful.
